Client: ScottishPower
Project: Replacement of 11kV switchboard
Duration: 16 weeks
Main Contractor: D & A Systems Ltd
D & A Systems were commissioned by ScottishPower to replace the existing nine panel Johnson and Phillips Switchboard at Great Boughton Primary Substation as part of their asset replacement programme.

Outage constraints on the ScottishPower 11kV network were such that we deployed a temporary substation housed within a GRP container to maintain supplies throughout the duration of the project.
Once the existing 11kV circuits had been transferred onto the temporary switchboard, D & A Systems who were the appointed CDM Principal Contractor dismantled the existing switchboard and assembled a new nine panel replacement Genie Evo Switchboard.

D & A Systems were employed on behalf of ScottishPower to witness the pre-commissioning tests by the switchboard manufacturer (Schneider Electric) and undertake comprehensive commissioning tests prior to the switchboard being put back into service.

The scheme involved extensive multicore cabling to accommodate the Scada control system adopted by ScottishPower which meant that all circuit breakers could be operated remotely via tele-control.
